Building official fired, theft charge is considered By Mary Jean Sell, Times-Echo news editorEureka Springs Building Official Randy Mills was fired Monday morning and possibly faces charges of theft for improperly using the city's credit card. Police Chief Earl Hyatt said Mills allegedly purchased a $266 television-VCR-DVD combination with the city's credit card in June. The purchase was noticed last week as the credit card statement was being reviewed prior to payment, according to Hyatt. Mayor Kathy Harrison said Hyatt interviewed Mills early Monday morning, then brought him to her office about 11 a.m. and she fired him. Mills was hired as a temporary building official in November of 2003. The council gave him a full-time position Dec. 8. "He had been doing a good job as the building official and I told him that this morning," Harrison said.
