Karate studio relocating to Eureka Springs

Groves Karate Studio, formerly located in the Park Shopping Center in Holiday Island, has relocated to Eureka Springs.

The new location is in the Eastgate Shopping Center.

Linda Groves, co-owner of the studio with sensei/husband Jack, said Monday the move was a business decision.

"Most of our students are from the Eureka Springs area," she said. "It's a matter of convenience for them."

The karate studio has been open for four and a half years and has been at the Holiday Island location that whole time.

"We very much appreciate Tom Dees (president of Holiday Island Development Corporation) for giving us our start," Groves said. "He just handed us the keys and said 'Go for it.' We never could have done this without him."

The studio started in a small office and soon expanded to two adjoining suites in the Park.

The makeup of students is about half adults, half children, Groves said.

Black belt Jack Groves received his training in the Okinawan style of karate. The studio teaches several styles of martial arts, and its students have consistently won awards at meets for their performance.

Groves also runs a training camp each year.

The studio is already open in its new location in Eureka Springs.
