Artists garner prizes in annual island art show

The annual Holiday Island Art Show and Fair this weekend was another successful event, with prizes for the best of the art and many demonstrations and performances in the tent next door to the Barn.

Thursday afternoon a reception was held in the Barn for the artists to award prizes.

Rudy Aguirre, a retired art professor who resides in Bella Vista, was the judge.

Aguirre had work brought up onstage when awarding prizes, to critique it and congratulate the artists.

Prizes were awarded as follows:

Best of Show:

Kriste-Lee, "Field of Flowers with Red Barn," made with millefiori polymer clay. Lee could not be present to receive her award, but Aguirre called her on the phone during the show and congratulated her.

Two-Dimensional:

1st Place: Lisa Bauer, "St. James Park," oil.

2nd Place: Lanette Duncan, "Little Maiden," watercolor.

3rd Place: Betty Johnson, "Waiting for the Party to Begin," acrylic.

Honorable Mention: Joan Hirnisey, "Sunset at Inspiration Point," oil.

Honorable Mention: John Kirkwood, "Conflict Resolution," polymer clay.

Demonstrations in the tent for the fair included drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery, jewelry and fabric art techniques.

Performances included the Holiday Island Singers, the Holiday Island Community Church Bell Choir, the Bear Creek Dulcimers, the North Arkansas Youth String Orchestra and individual and duo musical performances. Dramatic performances included skits, readings and short plays.
